Pattern, Grid & Colour Workshop with Marina Willer → Sat 18 Apr

Saturday, April 18th 2026
Sold Out

Spend a full day with Pentagram's Marina Willer exploring her sticker-led approach to composition, as part of our RISO CLUB 100 programme.

The workshop is hands-on, analogue-first, and full of exercises with grids, tracing paper overlays and a curated mix of materials. Finally translated it into two fluorescent riso editions of your own.

Part of RISO CLUB 100: an exhibition + live print programme celebrating 100 issues of RISOTTO's monthly print club.

You’ll work through a few structured prompts to build sticker-based compositions, using grids, tracing paper overlays, and found textures. From there you’ll select one artwork to refine, and we’ll help transform your analogue layers into riso-ready artwork for printing.

The Session Will Cover…

+

You’ll start with a short intro to Marina’s sticker-led approach to composition and building graphic rhythm, alongside a brief intro to Risograph printing and how colour layering works, including translucency and happy accidents. From there you’ll move into fast, grid-led composition exercises using stickers, tracing paper overlays, and found materials, learning how to use tracing paper to plan layers and simulate colour overlay before printing. You’ll choose one composition to refine for print, prepare the artwork for riso by thinking in layers, then print your final poster as a 4-colour result through layered passes.

What To Expect

+

This is an analogue-first workshop designed around pace, play, and strong composition. In the morning you’ll work through a series of quick exercises using grids and a shared inventory of stickers and materials, building multiple compositions rather than getting stuck perfecting one. Before lunch, you’ll choose your strongest direction and map your layers using tracing paper. In the afternoon, we shift into production and refinement: we’ll prepare your final artwork for riso and print it through layered passes for a 4-colour outcome. You’ll be supported throughout by the RISOTTO team so the printing stays smooth and you leave with finished work.

What You’ll Need

+

You don’t need to bring anything for making: we’ll provide a full sticker inventory, grid templates, tracing paper, and all materials.

Wear something you don’t mind getting a wee bit inky.

We’ll take a lunch break between 13:00–14:00. Bring lunch, or pop out locally.

Who It’s For
+

This workshop is ideal for designers, illustrators, artists, and curious beginners. No prior Risograph experience is needed. If you love bold composition, colour, pattern, and working with playful constraints, you’ll have a great time.

Workshop Outcome

+

Each participant will produce 40 prints in total, split into two A4 poster editions (20 + 20).

Your final outcome will be printed as a 4-colour result through layered passes, exploring how colour, paper, and composition shift in riso.

Why Join?

+

Because it’s a rare chance to spend a full day making with Marina Willer. Her work is iconic: bold, clever, and unapologetically graphic. You’ll learn directly from her sticker-led process, moving fast through structured exercises, then translating one strong composition into two fluorescent, layered riso editions. Expect big energy, sharp decisions, and a stack of prints you’ll actually want to keep.

Location & Access

+

RISOTTO Studio, The Glue Factory, 22 Farnell Street, Glasgow, G4 9SE, Scotland.
