Riso Composition Workshop with Anthony Burrill → Sat 11 Apr

Saturday, April 11th 2026
Sold Out

Spend a full day making with Anthony Burrill at RISOTTO Studio, as part of our RISO CLUB 100 programme.

The day is structured to keep you moving and making, with strong outcomes, and a lot of inky satisfaction. You’ll finish with two editions of your own riso prints that explore composition, in monochrome as well as colour.

Part of RISO CLUB 100: an exhibition + live print programme celebrating 100 issues of RISOTTO's monthly print club.

This is a rare chance to learn directly from Anthony’s bold, analogue approach to graphic composition. You’ll work screen-free using a simple grid, trace overlays, and with Anthony's curated library of pre-printed elements to cut, layer and collage.

The Session Will Cover...

+

An intro from Anthony, plus printed examples to set the tone. A brief intro to Risograph printing and how layering works (including translucency and happy accidents).
Building strong compositions using a grid framework.
Screen-free collage techniques using pre-printed elements on trace paper
Riso-Printing your two editions throughout the day.

What To Expect

+

This workshop is rooted in Anthony’s graphic approach: grid framework, simple elements, and a focus on composition and restraint. We’ll provide a curated library of pre-printed components (type fragments, textures, patterns, symbols) printed onto trace paper, so you can build layered layouts in a hands-on way. You’ll explore one-colour composition in the morning (including paper colour tests), then move into two-colour layering in the afternoon on neutral stocks to really see those ink interactions come to life.

What You’ll Need

+

Nothing but an openness to experiment and learn in a group setting. We’ll have all the tools you need available.
This is an analogue, screen-free workshop: no laptop needed.
We’ll take a lunch break between 13:00–14:00. Bring lunch, or pop out locally.

Workshop Outcome
+

Each participant will produce 40 Risograph prints, split into two editions (20 + 20), made throughout the day.

Who It’s For

+

This workshop is ideal for designers, illustrators, artists, and curious beginners. No prior Risograph experience is needed. If you love bold graphic work, typography, composition, and making through limitation, this will be a very satisfying day.

Why Join?

+

Because it’s a rare chance to spend a full day making with Anthony in a working print studio. Anthony’s graphic work is renowned; bold, direct, and brilliantly pared back, with that unmistakable confidence in type and composition. You’ll learn his approach to restraint and decision-making, and leave with a stack of prints that feel sharp and finished.

Location & Access

+

RISOTTO Studio, The Glue Factory, 22 Farnell Street, Glasgow, G4 9SE, Scotland.

Step-free access is available via ramp. If you have any access questions, feel free to get in touch before booking.

Cancellations
+

Tickets are non-refundable up to 30 days before the workshop. After that, we can offer a transfer to another person, but we can’t guarantee refunds. We will have a wait list open.
