This RISO CLUB archive edition features four original risograph artworks from Oakland, curated by Carissa Potter Carlson.

Each Postcard Set is printed by hand using layered colour separations and rich soy-based inks on recycled paper. Each design explores the playful textures and colour overlays unique to risograph printing.

Featured artists:

Annie May Johnston is an American artist and educator based in Austin, Texas, where she leads the printmaking area at the University of Texas. Her practice operates at the margins of the medium, combining traditional lithography with modern technologies like Risograph. Her work explores the relationship between the body and the environment, using layered mark-making and ephemeral materials to transcribe memory. She has exhibited internationally in cities including London, Basel and New York, showcasing a diverse range of prints, books and installations.

Carissa Potter is a human longing for connection. She writes books, makes art & public commissions, and hosts the series Bad At Keeping Secrets (one of Substack’s featured newsletter of 2022) where she talks to other humans doing really interesting things. Carissa is the founder of People I’ve Loved, the author of three books, and was one of AdAges 24 Most Inspiring People of 2021.

Emily Gui (pronounced "Guy") is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in California. She works across media in photography, sculpture, installation and drawing, with printmaking processes, aesthetics and histories at the core of her practice. She often uses print media to reference mass production and the consumption of materials, images and objects. Her projects focus broadly on the climate crisis through the specific lenses of culture and consumerism. She uses "the everyday" to reach a wide audience, engage climate anxiety and guide her education as a layperson and consumer.

Lena Gustafson (b. San Francisco 1989) is a painter and multi-disciplinary artist living and working in the east bay, CA. Her paintings depict scenes of transformation often with figures or plants merging with their environment. Primary themes in Gustafson's work include body memory, repression, sequential evolution, and reciprocity. She received her BFA from the Art Institute of Boston in 2011.
